n. (pl. -ies) 1 the state or condition of being probable. 2 the likelihood of something happening. 3 a probable or most probable event (the probability is that they will come). 4 Math. the extent to which an event is likely to occur, measured by the ratio of the favourable cases to the whole number of cases possible. Phrases and idioms in all probability most probably. Etymology: F probabilit{eacute} or L probabilitas (as PROBABLE)
